As Tellart began work on the ambitious Chrome Web Lab—a hybrid museum exhibit and website—they sought musical advice for a robotic “orchestra” of mechanical instruments. I directed the instrumentation, assisting in the hiring of fabricators and working closely with industrial designers to refine both musical and visual aesthetics. In collaboration with designers from Tellart and B-Reel, I prototyped an interface inspired by game physics, and ultimately implemented the musical back end, as well as monitoring interfaces and an After Effects-based video render farm to produce take-home documentation for visitors. Over the course of the year-long installation, the project received over half a million museum visitors and millions of online visits, resulting in millions of pieces of shareable user-generated content.
