As part of the long-anticipated public announcement of the Levi’s® Commuter™ Trucker jacket featuring Jacquard by Google touch-sensitive textiles, both partners sought to communicate this novel technology in a hands-on installation. I worked with Imprint Projects to conceive of a fabric, sound, and light installation to complement the organic look and feel of the Levi’s® Outpost venue at SXSW 2017. As visitors touch a piece of custom-made Jacquard textile, an array of hanging panels of muslin become illuminated, to the sound of soft, inviting music. I worked collaboratively with Imprint Projects’ environmental designers and Jasper Speicher to extensively prototype and refine the optical effects of LEDs on muslin. The project further entailed signal processing for the capacitive touch sensor, wireless transmission of lighting signals, custom sound design using Patter, and careful assembly by hand with generous team support. The product announcement was hugely successful, earning 840 million press impressions.
